In this Maras Moray Tour we will visit the village of Maras and the agricultural experimentation terraces of Moray. It is believed that in this fascinating area, the Incas created their own micro-climate to adapt plants, flowers, and many other products from different parts of the Inca empire.
Then we will go to the “Salineras” located just below Maras. These mines are still working and the peasants work in them during the day. Back to Cusco we will visit the colonial temple of Chinchero and its famous handicraft market. Here tourists can also take part in the wonderful demonstration of the natural dyeing of wool, which is dyed naturally with plants, seeds and minerals.

Moray Maras Tour Salt Mines

Our Maras Moray and Salt Mines Tour excursion starts at 9:00 am with pick up from your hotel in Cusco, then, we will head to the wonderful town of Maras, district of the province of Urubamba at 3,300 meters above sea level. Located 52km from the city of Cusco, houses the most important salt mines of the region exploited since Inca times and the colonial period, which was the first salt producing centre.
We will visit:

Moray.

It is located 7 km. from Maras, 01 hour from the city of Cusco by the route of Chinchero is one of the most spectacular visits where there are circular terraces of different sizes. They are terraces of agricultural experimentation and places of concentration of feminine energy, for which it is considered as a magnetic centre of the Pachamama.

Salt mines of Maras.

Located to the northwest of the town of Maras. Known by some as “salt mines”, they are made up of some 3000 small wells. The salt has been obtained since pre-Hispanic times through a system of drying salt water from an underground stream in the sun. Once the water has evaporated, the salt is ready to be sold.

Chinchero Handicraft Market.

This village is located 28 km from Cusco on the asphalted road to Urubamba. It is like a beautiful colonial temple built on Inca foundations. Its main attraction, however, is its handicraft market, originally dedicated to the barter of agricultural products between the villagers of the valley and those of the highlands. Nowadays, the market is a true spectacle of colour and movement that fascinates tourists with its offer of handicrafts and textiles made in the purest pre-Columbian style.
